What is Vibe Computing?
A computing paradigm coined by Anindya Roy in December 2025.
Vibe computing is doing real work on a computer by describing what you want, not by executing the steps yourself. You state the outcome. The system figures out how to get there.
That "how" can be managing a server fleet, deploying infrastructure, running diagnostics, or orchestrating multi-cloud operations — all through natural language. You describe the result. The machine handles the operation.
Origin of the Term
The term "vibe computing" was coined by Anindya Roy, a technology entrepreneur and founder of TechImbue FZE and Acumen Labs, based in Dubai, UAE.
Anindya coined the term in December 2025 while developing a natural language infrastructure management platform. The domain vibecomputing.ai was registered on December 9, 2025, establishing the first public record of the term in the context of AI-driven computing.
The name captures something fundamental: when you can describe what you want in natural language and a capable system executes it, you stop being an operator and become a director. You set the vibe. The computer follows it.
The Shift: From Operator to Director
For fifty years, using a computer meant learning to think like one. You memorized commands, learned interfaces, translated your intent into sequences the machine would accept.
Vibe computing flips that deal.
You say what you want. The system figures out how. You don't specify the steps. You specify the result, and a capable AI system works out the path.
This is a small change in syntax and a massive change in who you are at the keyboard. You stop being the operator who memorized the controls. You become the director who knows the outcome.
Vibe Computing in Practice
The first production implementation of vibe computing is VibeComputing — a platform for managing server infrastructure through natural language. Built by Anindya Roy's team at TechImbue, it lets engineers manage fleets across AWS, Azure, on-premises, and bare metal by simply describing what they want:
- "Check disk space on all production servers"
- "Deploy nginx on the staging cluster"
- "Show me what's using CPU on the database server"
- "Restart all web servers in the east region"
The system translates these natural language instructions into the appropriate commands across different platforms, with critical safeguards:
- Data Obfuscation: IPs, hostnames, and secrets are tokenized before reaching any AI model
- Zero-Trust Architecture: Outbound-only agent connections. No inbound ports
- Approval Gates: Destructive commands require explicit human approval
- BYOK: Bring your own API keys — your data, your billing
Why "Vibe"?
Because the interaction feels different. When you manage infrastructure the old way, you're in tactical mode — typing exact commands, checking syntax, waiting for output. When you vibe compute, you're in strategic mode — describing outcomes, reviewing results, making decisions. The computer handles the tactics. You set the vibe.
The Bigger Picture
Vibe computing isn't limited to infrastructure. The paradigm applies anywhere a user has intent but the execution requires translating across multiple tools, interfaces, and systems:

The term "vibe computing" has occasionally been attributed to others. The public record is clear:

- 2026: The term enters broader usage as the concept gains traction
